Mr. Gillen has been in the hair industry for 17 years. Prior to hair, he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Juilliard School in New York City, where he celebrated a 22-year career as a ballet dancer and Broadway chorus boy. At 33 years of age, he began his hair tutelage under the direction of celebrity hairstylists: Garren, Thom Priano, Jimmy Paul, and Louis Angelo at the Garren, New York Salon on 5th Avenue. His New York representation included Contact and Judy Casey Agencies. Editorial spreads to his credit have appeared in GQ, Men’s Italian Vogue, Glamour, More, DuJour, New York Magazine, WWD, Men’s Health, Dance Magazine, and Dance Spirit Magazine. For 15 consecutive years, Trey has styled hair for New York Fashion Week in Bryant Park and Lincoln Center. Designers include Anna Sui, Donna Karan, Naeem Khan, Victoria’s Secret, Ralph Lauren, Nicole Miller, Wes Gordon, Veronica Beard, Bibhu Mohapatra, CZAR by Cesar Galindo, Moscow, Behnaz Sarafpour, Andy and Debb, ThreeAsFour, and Timo Weiland. Brands that have called on his artistic skills for their catalogs are Abercrombie & Fitch, J Crew, Ralph Lauren, and Houston’s Modern Luxury Brides. Trey has also been known to tress the locks for Broadway shows such as Pirates of Penzance, the Sondheim Review at Carnegie Hall, Movin’ Out, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and Barefoot in the Park (where he worked exclusively with Amanda Peet and Patrick Wilson).

While in NYC, Trey’s clientele spanned from New York socialites, Broadway stars, and TV personalities to runway models, fashion designers, rap artists, and Hollywood celebrities. Upon moving to Houston, Texas, he began traveling the world as a global artist for Kerastase, Shu Uemura Art of Hair, Rene Furterer, and L’Oreal Professional and has appeared as a guest educator for the Aveda Institute. Trey regularly appears on TV with ABC, NBC, and Live Well HD Network as well as offers his commentary in magazines and online publications such as Real Simple, Oprah Magazine, Martha Stewart, Cosmopolitan, Elle, Marie Claire, The Zoe Report, Today.com, Well+Good, Byrdie, and Bustle. When not working, you will find Trey down in Galveston, TX, at his beach home with his golden retriever, Riley!
